Men and women of all ages, shapes, and sizes struggle with areas of unwanted fat on both their bodies and faces. In the past, surgical procedures such as facelifts or tummy tucks were the only ways to solve this issue. With time, technology has become more advanced and options become more alternative. 10 years from now, Radio-Frequency technology will likely replace many of the surgical procedures that our Plastic Surgeons are performing with a knife today.

Let’s take a look at one of the more popular body contouring options in the market today: CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting uses an older technology, Cryolipolysis, to remove areas of stubborn body fat by freezing the fat cells from specific parts of the body. While CoolSculpting is non-invasive and has ultimately no downtime, it is less customizable, and does not actually tighten the skin like some of the newer technologies offered. CoolSculpting can take up to 8-12 months to see optimal results, and candidates will typically need 2 or more 35+ minute sessions to achieve 20-25% fat reduction.

While there are other body contouring technologies out there, the new AccuTite, BodyTite and FaceTite devices are the future within minimally-invasive body contouring for patients that need precision fat reduction, skin contraction, and tissue remodeling. The AccuTite is the smallest minimally-invasive radio-frequency contraction device on the market today and can be used to shape multiple areas on the face (FaceTite) and body (BodyTite).

BodyTite & FaceTite use minimally-invasive Radio-Frequency Assisted Lypolysis (RFAL) to produce skin-tightening results while stimulating the body’s own collagen production. During these procedures, fat and tissue are heated and extracted using light vacuum pressure through minimally-invasive incision sites. The skin is then tightened and remodeled to create a smoother look using the Radio-Frequency energy that is 100% concentrated at the treatment zone.

BodyTite & FaceTite are great solutions for individuals who are looking to reduce fat and tighten skin without the downtime or visible scarring associated with other fat-reduction surgeries. The results from both BodyTite & FaceTite can be visible instantly and only require one treatment at the desired area to achieve up to 40% skin contraction, as shown in peer-reviewed clinical studies. While these procedures can be less affordable than other cosmetic options, this new technology can essentially save money in the sense that individuals can go back to work as soon as the next day.

Dr. Mark Bishara, who completed a fellowship appointment at the world-renowned Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical school affiliate, gained state-of-the-art skills in body contouring after massive weight loss. Here at Paragon Plastic Surgery & MedSpa, Dr. Bishara offers minimally-invasive face and body contouring with the new BodyTite & FaceTite technologies in both of his Mansfield, Texas and Southlake, Texas locations.

Summer is here but you might be thinking that you didn’t quite get the summer body you wanted or have noticed stubborn fat that you cannot get rid of. Most people think that liposuction is just an easy way out of not having to work out or eat healthy, but it’s not!

Who should consider a liposuction

People who should consider having a liposuction are people that have those stubborn “love handles” or just fat that is hard to get rid of, even with exercising and dieting. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. For a liposuction procedure, the patient has to have a steady weight and should be in general good health. A liposuction is to help contour the patients body.

Treatable areas

Liposuction is most known to be done on the patients abdomen. Truth is liposuction can also be done on the flanks (“love handles”), hips, thighs, buttocks, and arms. Liposuction can also be done while getting a tummy tuck! Liposuction in general can give you that nice body contour that  has been so hard to achieve.

Many of us have jokingly made the comment, “if only I could transfer this fat to another part of my body.” Well, you can! Many plastic surgeons like Dr. Mark A. Bishara have performed many liposuction with fat transfer procedures. The procedure is safe and provides natural looking results.

Who should consider a fat transfer?

According to smartbeautyguide.com, people who consider getting a fat transfer are patients who have facial areas that appear creased or sunken, people that want more permanent correction than what fillers provide, and people that would like to do body contouring and breast reconstruction. The most popular fat transfer procedure performed is the buttock augmentation because more and more people want to have a rounder and fuller buttock.

How to know if you are a good candidate

The first step for this procedure would be to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mark A. Bishara. During your consultation, you and Dr. Bishara will talk about what your goals are and he will evaluate and provide you with different options. Paragon Plastic Surgery & Med Spa will use different machines, such as the Vectra, which is a 3D imaging device that helps give you an understanding as to what your results will look like after the procedure.

How its done…

The fat being transferred is taken from areas such as the outer thighs, abdomen and flanks. Once marking the area, the fat will be taken from the area on your body using a cannula. Once the fat has been extracted, it goes through the purification process where the fat cells are transferred into small syringes. The next step will be the preparation of the area where the fat will be transferred. Using a needle or a cannula, Dr. Mark A. Bishara will then begin inserting the fatty tissues. The same process is repeated until the desired shape has been achieved.

After the procedure

After the procedure, swelling and bruising are common during the first week. On week 2, you will still have some swelling but bruising should start going away. Following the third week, you will notice that everything will start look normal. Instructions about drains and other symptoms will be reviewed with you after the procedure and written instructions will be provided as well. Following recovery, you may notice tiny scars that will fade with time but sometimes they are not visible.

What is abdominoplasty or tummy tuck?

An abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure to help remove excess skin and fat of the abdomen that normally is left after pregnancy, weight loss and age.

Who is a candidate?

Good candidates are generally in good health, which means no active diseases or existing medical conditions. For females, Dr. Mark Bishara recommends to wait until they are done having children.

How is a tummy tuck done?

Dr. Mark Bishara begins with marking the area. The nurses will then begin to prep you for the procedure. A tummy tuck is done under general anesthesia. Dr. Mark Bishara incision is made across the lower abdomen above the pubic bone. The incision usually goes from hip to hip. Dr. Mark Bishara will also make an incision around the belly button. The skin is pulled down toward the pubis and sutured. A new hole will then be made to suture in the belly button. Drains are placed to allow fluids to drain for a couple of days. Drains look like small grenades and they need to be drained as needed. Drains will then be removed couple days typically 3-5 days after.

What should i expect after tummy tuck?

After your tummy tuck you will be able to walk. Walks are encouraged to take at least 3 to 4 times a day for a few minutes. You will not be able to stand completely straight for several days. The incision area will feel tight. An abdominal pressure garment will need to be used for several weeks to help hold everything in place while the healing part is complete.

How soon can i start exercising?

Light exercising  and walking can be resumed a week post procedure. For more strenuous activities the patient is recommended to wait 6 weeks.

How soon will i see results?

Once the drains are removed and any swelling that occurred has gone away you will be able to notice the difference. It will take time but once your body is completely healed you will begin to see the many benefits of the tummy tuck.

Should i get pregnant after a tummy tuck?

Yes, although it is recommended for the patients to be done with having children so that the benefits of the tummy tuck are not lost.

Will i be able to start a scar treatment after a tummy tuck?

After a tummy tuck you want to let the incision heal. Dr. Mark Bishara recommends about 6 weeks post procedure for any scar treatment.
