Since gaining FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002, Botox has become one of the quickest, easiest and most affordable methods available for improving the appearance of moderate to severe frown and worry lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes and lines on the forehead and neck.  Formally known as Botulinum toxin, Botox, which is a purified protein made from a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, it is the most effective neurotoxin known.  Its use has become widespread worldwide, particularly by celebrities, as it is viewed as being less intrusive and artificial when compared to other types of cosmetic facial procedures.
Botox injections are received by millions every year, both men and women in Mansfield, Texas, placing the treatment at number one as the most popular facial improvement method available.  When performed by an experienced and qualified practitioner the procedure is considered to be very safe.  Its effects  typically last for about four to six months, although some results may be as long-lasting as eight months.  The procedure only takes a few minutes to perform and results are visible within a few short days.
How It Works

As a neurotoxin, when used at the prescribed dilution, Botox has a paralytic effect on the muscles adjacent to where injections are made.  Facial wrinkles, caused by the muscles continually working to form smiles, frowns and various other facial expressions, become more pronounced as you age, often making you look older than you’d like.  The introduction of Botox into these muscles causes them to relax and soften and simultaneously blocks the nerve impulses to them, taking away their ability to contract.  Areas where improved appearance is most noticeable are the forehead, around the eyes and mouth and the neck.  It should be noted, however, that the use of Botox will not have noticeable effects on wrinkles caused by gravity or by sun damage.
Advantages to Choosing Botox Treatment

With the vast array of facial cosmetic procedures currently available, you may wonder if using Botox is best for you in the attempt to rejuvenate your face and improve your looks.  Here are a few points to consider:

  • Treatments are quick, easy and affordable.  The actual procedure normally takes only 10 or 15 minutes to complete, with zero recovery time and noticeable effects in just a few days.
  • The process is non-invasive, unlike plastic surgery, with very little risk when performed by an experienced, qualified provider.
  • The treatment will take years off your appearance, improving not only your looks but your self-image as well.
  • Although the effects of Botox are temporary, requiring additional treatment after a number of months, the relaxing of the muscles will discourage the formation of new lines and wrinkles in the future.

Is a facelift too invasive for you but you would still like to experience dramatic results that you thought only a fountain of youth could acheive? Here at The Paragon Plastic Surgery & Medspa, you can receive a combination of Ultherapy and injectable wrinkle/filler treatments, such as Botox, Radiesse, or Juvederm, to create a fresh, vibrant new you. These treatments all offer a different course of action in providing a more youthful look for our patients, but when combined, they work synergistically to create a harmonious result that both works on a soft tissue and muscular level.

Before and After Botox & Juvederm Voluma

Botox, for example, combats wrinkles on a muscular level by minimizing muscle contraction and relaxing hyperactive muscles. Alternately, filler is used to add volume to designated areas on the face while Ultherapy works on a tissue-level to stimulate collagen, lifting and tightening the skin as a result. As you can see, this combination of preventing the muscle contraction that causes wrinkles with Botox, adding volume with Filler, and tightening the skin with Ultherapy, have the power to create a balanced and complete look that would not be achieved from just doing one treatment by itself.

Ultherapy - Face

How long you should wait in between each treatment, and in what order they should be done, is an opinion that varies from doctor to doctor. At our own Paragon Plastic Surgery & Medspa, Dr. Mark Bishara recommends waiting about two weeks after Ultherapy to receive any injections. This short wait time will give any swelling that may happen as a result of Ultherapy time to settle so that how much filler/Botox needs to be used can be determined. This incredible combination of treatments yields fabulous results that can be yours! Call us now to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mark Bishara to discuss this as an option for you.

We all know that botox works for wrinkles but did you know it can work for breasts? Botulinum toxin type A can now play a role in inhibiting one of the most serious breast surgery complications-  capsular contracture.
Capsular contracture is an immune system response to foreign materials in the body. It mostly occurs from complications from breast implants and artificial joint prosthetics. It is followed by the formation of capsules of tightly woven collagen fibers tightening and compressing to the implant. It can occur in different grades and become very discomforting and painful to the touch.
Now researchers have found that botox can reduce the capsule thickness by injecting 0.5 mL into implant pockets and found it had also decreased inflammatory cells. Once validated in a clinical setting, this may be another use for the neurotoxin. In a published article in 2015 in the Archives of Plastic Surgery authors wrote about botox’s role and suggesting it may be effective in reducing keloid scarring, which is similar to implant capsules.
Current uses for Botox include treating facial wrinkles, hyperhydrosis, blepharospasm and migraines. This could be just another beneficial use for the neurotoxin after performing more patient research.

Botox, xeomin, dysport

Decisions, decisions! As if deciding whether to get help with fine lines and wrinkles wasn’t bad enough. You also have to make a decision on which product to go with. Botox, Xeomin, Dysport which one is best? Is there a difference?
Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are all used to temporarily treat the frown lines between the eyebrows. So is there really something that makes them any different?
Botox is used to paralyze the muscles under the skin that cause those fine lines and wrinkles. Once injected botox prevents the muscles from releasing acetylcholine which is what causes the muscles to contract then causing those wrinkles. Botox lasts anywhere from three to six months.
Xeomin as botox and dysport is used to help smooth out those frown lines that tend to appear between the brows. It is used to block the nerve activity making a temporary minimization in muscle activity. Xeomin has no additives and the effect after being injected appear after a week. It is similar to botox  dysport when it comes to duration on results. It can last from 3 to 6 months.
If you are looking for more of a natural look Dysport would be a great option as mentioned on  dysportusa.com Dysport is to give you more of a smooth natural look rather than a frozen look. There are five different points to where one injection of Dysport is used. Once injected the injection will temporarily stop the muscles between the brows to contract.
So as we see all three products are used for the same purpose. They are all used to help minimize and smooth out the appearance of those fine lines and wrinkles. Still unsure? Dr. Mark A. Bishara at The Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa can help. Dr. Mark A. Bishara treats a large amount of patients weekly. So if in doubt come see Dr. Bishara he would be more than happy to help you make the best decision.
