JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is available in the office of Dr. Bishara and The Paragon Plastic Surgery & Med Spa

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is the first and only filler FDA-approved for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is for patients over the age of 21.
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC injectable gel is the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area. Juvederm Voluma is the Juvederm specialty product for volumizing. It is designed for injection in the deep dermis to treat age-related facial volume loss. Voluma has the optimal thickness of a volumizer while still retaining the smooth nature of the Juvederm family.
It gives you a subtle lift, helping to restore contour and for a more youthful profile, for up to 2 years, in patients over the age of 21. It’s different than JUVÉDERM® XC and works on a different area of the face. JUVÉDERM® XC smoothes out moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, like parentheses. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC, however, adds volume to the cheek area.

Dr. Mark Bishara offers minimally invasive procedures for patients, that are designed to provide subtle enhancements to improve your targeted problem areas, while allowing you to return to work and your regular activities the very same day. Dr. Bishara is proud to offer a wide range of enhancing, minimally invasive procedures such as Botox, Xeomin, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC and Radiesse.  Juvederm Voluma XC is now also available. We all have varying degrees of fat in our faces and a multitude of factors can cause changes to these fatty compartments. Volume loss occurs because of gradual changes in the appearance of the fat. There is a loss both superficially and at a deeper level that comes along with aging.

1. Yo-Yo Dieting And Extreme Exercising
Keeping fat off your body is no easy task since the body can’t be told where to lose weight from and where to keep it. So even if you want to “spot-treat” a specific part of the body, you may end up reducing the amount of fat in your face as well. The ups and downs of recurrent dieting cause a stretching of the ligaments that support the tissues of the face. This can result in a loss of elasticity and volume, which promotes an aging effect.
2. Excessive Sun Exposure
Although fat loss is not directly dependent on UV rays, it is important to protect your skin from the sun. If you don’t wear SPF daily, the sun will accelerate the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. When collagen and elastin levels are of poor quality, the condition of the skin is affected and the loss of fat can be accentuated.
3. Hormonal Changes
Female hormones, especially estrogen, are partially responsible for changes in the amount and quality of fat. As hormone levels begin to dip, fat can start to thin out.
4. Too Thin Of A Frame
It is possible to be too skinny. When that’s the case, the aging process will become even more of your enemy than your friend. The reason: A naturally thin face has little natural fat to begin with and over time the inherent amounts of fat begin to diminish, causing an extremely haggard look.
5. Receding Bones
With age, we naturally lose bone mass in the face. The muscles also begin to atrophy to some degree. These changes alter the underlying structure of the face and can cause the cheekbones and midface to look collapsed (the effects usually don’t take hold until later in life). It’s noticeable in the 70- to 80-year-old patient and while it’s highly variable, the majority of resorption happens around the nose and in the central face.
At the office of Dr. Mark Bishara and The Paragon Plastic Surgery & Med Spa we provide a wide range of cosmetic procedures to help patients look and feel their best, including injectables and fillers. These procedures are designed to improve the appearance of volume loss through minimally invasive techniques. Minimally invasive procedures offer patients the results they desire without the hassle and lengthy downtime often associated with cosmetic surgery procedures. JUVEDERM ULTRA PLUS – INJECTABLE FILLER TREATMENTS

What is Juvederm Ultra Plus?
Juvederm Ultra Plus is hyaluronic acid which is a complex sugar that is identical to the hyaluronic acid your body makes. Because the Juvederm Ultra Plus is identical to the hyaluronic acid in your own body, it breaks down naturally.
How does Juvederm Ultra Plus work?
When Juvederm Ultra Plus is injected into or below the skin it lifts wrinkles, depressions, or scars, so that they are level to the surrounding skin.
Where is Juvederm Ultra Plus used?
Juvederm Ultra Plus can be used anywhere in the face (except for the hollows under the eyes (tear troughs), but it is best suited for deep wrinkles and to replace the facial volume lost due to the aging process. The ideal locations for Juvederm Ultra Plus are the smile lines or parentheses lines (nasolabial or melolabial folds), the marionette lines, to hide the jowls by replacing the volume lost just in front of the jowl (prejowl depression) and for lip augmentation (plumper lips).
Are there different types of hyaluronic acid?
Currently, there are two companies that make injectable hyaluronic acid. Medicis makes Restylane and Perlane, and Allergan makes Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus and Juvederm Voluma XC.
Does Juvederm Ultra Plus work instantly?
Juvederm Ultra Plus works instantly to lift wrinkles, depressions, scars, and to restore the volume lost during the aging process.
How long does Juvederm Ultra Plus last?
The duration of Juvederm Ultra Plus varies from person to person, from injection site to injection site, and from visit to visit. There are three general rules with Juvederm Ultra Plus: 1. The closer you inject Juvederm Ultra Plus to the mouth, the faster the Juvederm Ultra Plus breaks down. 2. The more superficial you inject Juvederm Ultra Plus the longer it lasts. 3. There are no guarantees of duration when it comes to Juvederm Ultra Plus.
How many visits are there for a Juvederm Ultra Plus injection?
Unless you have had injectable fillers before, and know exactly what you want, there is usually a consultation to discuss your concerns and to educate you about your treatment options. Once the appropriate injectable filler has been determined for your concern we can do treatment at the time of the consultation.
Dr. Bishara provides a wide range of cosmetic procedures to help patients look and feel their best, including Botox and Juvederm. Many of these procedures can be combined in order to achieve your desired appearance. – New cosmetic filler adds ‘plump’ to aging faces

DALLAS — Sixty-nine-year-old Ruth McKinnon works hard to keep her body in shape, but her lean face is the work of Father Time.
“I’ve lost the volume, and it makes me look much older than what I actually feel,” she said.
Cheek volume loss is natural as people age. A new cosmetic filler called Voluma was FDA-approved in October to temporarily plump up cheeks.
North Texas physicians are now beginning to use the product.
“A facelift will lift loose skin or loose muscle, but it doesn’t really add volume unless you add something to it,” explained Dallas dermatologist Dr. Lori Stetler.
She said Voluma is FDA-approved for the mid-face, and should not be used on the lips.
Voluma is made with hyaluronic acid gel, polysaccharide sugar that occurs naturally in the body. According to the Juvéderm website, “the most common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.”
As with all skin-injection procedures, there is also a risk of infection. Because the product requires a deep injection, it contains the anesthetic lidocain. Patients with an allergy to lidocaine should not use Voluma.
Results can be seen immediately after side-effects dissipate (not all patients experience side-effects).
Experts say most patients will need two or more syringes per treatment.
The product is designed to last for two years, longer than other fillers. That’s appealing to Jessica George, who just turned 40.
With a full-time job and two busy kids, she doesn’t have extra time to spend getting cosmetic treatments.
“I want natural,” George said. “I just want to look more youthful, get a few of those years back.”
Voluma has another advantage: It’s reversible.
“It’s dissolvable, so if for some reason you have a problem with it — the patient doesn’t like it, you end up with a little bump — you can put a little enzyme in to dissolve it, you’re done,” Dr. Stetler said. “Some of the other permanent fillers, you’re stuck with them.”
If a mistake is made with other products, patients must either wait for it to wear out with time or sometimes suffer long-lasting consequences.
“I was astonished at the difference,” Ruth McKinnon said. “It actually filled in the hollow area that I focused on every time I looked in the mirror.”
McKinnon underwent two treatments. Doctors say it’s better to under-estimate the amount of product needed at first, rather than overfill.
While McKinnon doesn’t want any extra plumpness on her body, she likes what a little extra volume does to her face.

Voluma is now available in the office of Dr. Mark Bishara and The Paragon Plastic Surgery & Med Spa in Mansfield and Southlake, TX

As we get older, the edge of the lips becomes less shapely. Collagen and elastin, which give lips their pouty shape, break down over time, and lines around the lips settle in. Once these lines become etched into the skin, there’s less definition.
To recreate a youthful, heart-shaped outline, Botox, used off-label, can be injected along the edges of the upper and lower lip line, temporarily relaxing the muscles that can cause wrinkling. The procedure requires no anesthesia and takes only 10 minutes.
To further enhance the contours of a thin, wrinkled lip line, your dermatogist or plastic surgeon may also suggest a hyaluronic acid filler like Restylane, Juvederm or Perlane for increased volume. The results are immediate and can last up to a year, depending on which product is used.
Fillers do not damage the existing tissue; they simply add volume by allowing the material injected to be interspersed among the fibers and cells already there. As fillers gradually disappear, lip volume returns to its previous condition.
Dr. Bishara is proud to offer a wide range of dermal fillers and other enhancing, minimally invasive procedures, in both our Mansfield and Southlake office locations.  Please call our office to schedule an appointment at (817) 473-2120 or visit our website at www.MarkBisharaMD.com for more information.
