Ever wonder after getting a facial or chemical peel what makes your face feel so firm and fresh? There is a very important and common ingredient found in some skin care products. We all know that taking our daily multivitamins and eating healthy are important to our everyday lifestyle as well as keeping our skin looking beautiful, but did you know that we can also find our vitamins in our skin care products as well.  At Dr. Bishara’s office and The Paragon Med Spa we know the benefits of Retinoids for skin care.
Our epidermis is the outer most part of our body and is exposed to so many free radicals each day and it is also the organ to receive the least amount of vitamins from the foods we
eat and the supplements we take. This is why in order to protect the biggest organ on our body (our skin) we need to use good topical products to insure it receives all the vitamins it needs to stay healthy as well.
Retinoids are a form of vitamin A and essential to collagen production, wrinkle and inflammation reduction. Retinoids can be found in many different forms and can also have different side affects on the skin. Retinal is the alcohol form of Vitamin A which can convert to retinoic acid. Retinoic Acid is more commonly found in chemical peels and is used for more acne prone, problematic skin. Now although these are okay to use on the skin they can at times cause a little peeling depending on the strength and form thats in the product being used.
The next time you see our aesthetician at Dr. Bishara’s office & The Paragon Med Spa- please ask how Retinoids would be beneficial in your daily skin care regimen.  For more information about us, feel free to explore our website, or call the office today at 817.473.2120.

Are you thinking about laser resurfacing treatment for acne, wrinkles, unwanted hair or tattoo removal, or even male pattern baldness? Over the years, we’ve found many benefits with laser treatments, and these are just a few of them. Let’s take a closer look at how laser resurfacing can help you.

Laser Treatment Explained
Laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) produces an intense beam of bright light travelling in one specific, concentrated direction. This beam gently vaporizes and/or ablates skin tissue in order to remove scars, wrinkles or blemishes, seal blood vessels or even cut skin tissue.
Laser treatments and systems are becoming more and more precise and selective, so new and better treatments are becoming available all the time.
Skin Resurfacing
The latest breakthrough in skin rejuvenation, many people are opting for laser resurfacing as an alternative to cosmetic surgery, removing flaws such as wrinkles or acne scars.
How does it work?

A wand-like handheld laser is used to target undesired skin cells wrinkles, which then disappear almost like magic to be replaced by fresh skin cells. This procedure is mainly carried out by Dr Bisharas, it’s relatively simple and especially safe for dealing with delicate areas, with no scalpel required!
What can a Laser Treatment do for You?
Here are some of the ways lasers are being used to treat people every day:

  • Erase fine lines and facial wrinkles.
  • Smooth and tighten eyelid skin
  • Improve/take away the appearance of crow’s feet around your eyes
  • Remove tattoos
  • Improve and flatten scars
  • Help improve male pattern baldness/hair regrowth
  • Soften pucker marks and frown lines
  • Remove brown spots and eradicate uneven skin color
  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Repair smoker’s lines

What to Expect During and After Treatment
Laser resurfacing is a simple and minimally painful procedure, which means during the procedure itself, discomfort is usually very minor, and any pain medication will be discussed with your dermatologic surgeon prior to any treatment carried out.
Aftercare involved in skin resurfacing is also fairly simple. Treated areas should usually be kept moist, and ointment or surgical bandages should be applied for the first few days following the procedure. Skin will appear red or pink and may show a fine crust; this is completely normal. Treated areas should be protected from sunlight following the resurfacing, and make-up can be applied after around one to two weeks following treatment.
Any Side Effects or Complications?
These are minimal, with significant complications extremely rare. The risk of scarring is low, although in some cases, patients may be at risk of some pigmentation loss, depending on which type of laser is used. Common side effects can include mild swelling, crusting, redness or brown discoloration on treated areas – the risk of these are usually minimized by standard surgical techniques and regimens.
Limitations
As with everything, laser treatment has its limitations. It is not a substitute for a facelift, for example, nor can it eliminate excess skin – but it can tighten loose skin, improve certain folds, creases or wrinkles.

Laser resurfacing can prove a very effective alternative to other resurfacing methods, such as microdermabrasion, along with working wonders with other treatments such as chemical peels, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and liposuction of the face and neck.
So far, laser treatments are proving successful in treatment baldness in men, with studies showing promising results for reduced hair loss and/or hair regrowth. But it’s not a straightforward cure for male pattern baldness, with results varying.

If you have been looking for a way to turn back the clock but do not want to undergo plastic surgery, an injectable filler may be a more practical option. Much less expensive than cosmetic surgery, dermal fillers are less invasive and allow you to make subtle changes in your appearance with no surprise results. Your face will have a softer, more youthful appearance without surgery, scarring or recuperation time.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is an inject able dermal filler than plumps up the areas around the nose and mouth that are referred to as “laugh lines”. These are actually fine lines or wrinkles that develop due to normal aging. It is also used for lip augmentation and for facial scars and furrows. Juvederm was approved by the Food and Drug Administration  based on research from comparative studies with another injectable filler.
How Does it Work?
The chief ingredient in Juvederm is hyaluronic acid which is used by cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists to hydrate the skin and restore firmness making the appearance of fine lines disappear. Hyaluronic acid absorbs water and binds with the collagen in the skin to restore tightness and firmness of the skin which is why it is so popular with dermatologists and patients alike.
The injections are placed in the dermis layer of the skin where it adds moisture and volume to the tissues improving the appearance of the skin. The liquid is biocompatible and gets absorbed into the body within about six to nine months.
Benefits of Juvederm
One of the key benefits of Juvederm is the fact that the effects last longer than with some other injectables so there is no need for as many repeat treatments. There is also less pain from injections since Juvederm also contains lidocaine, a numbing agent, to reduce the amount of discomfort a patient may feel.
Is it Safe?
There are little to no side effects as hyaluronic acid is found naturally occurring in the body anyway. The only reported side effects are redness of the skin near the site of the injection which goes away after a day or so and possibly minimal tenderness and swelling.
Juvederm is F.D.A approved as a dermal filler and is considered safe because its chief components are natural, biodegradable compounds which are the same as the dermis itself. There are little allergen concerns because it is made with no animal by-products to cause a reaction, although it should be avoided by patients with a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis.
What to Expect from Treatment
The procedure is quick and easy and takes only a few minutes. Dr Bishara will explain how the procedure works and answer any questions or concerns you may have. After the treatment you should avoid consuming any alcohol or performing strenuous activities for 24 hours. You should see improvement in the skin surface right away which should last for a minimum of six months with minimal follow up appointments after that to maintain a youthful appearance.

If you are one of the growing number of people who want to improve their confidence by taking control of their bodies and lives, there may be a new solution on the market for you: Xeomin, a new cosmetic injection for reducing frown lines on the forehead. Approved by the FDA for cosmetic use in July 2011, the cosmetic market is being swept by this new treatment for unwanted wrinkles.  Dr. Bishara  has the most experience with this new product as he was amongst the first providers in north Texas to receive this new drug through an invitation into the Merz Aesthetics Elite Providers Program.
These injections strike a perfect balance between over-the-counter solutions like creams or masks, which only treat the surface of your skin, and invasive, expensive surgical procedures. Xeomin addresses the root of the problem, working on the wrinkles, not your skin, making it highly effective in eliminating wrinkles. Unlike surface treatments, it only needs to be applied occasionally, so there is no need for complex daily anti-wrinkle rituals; unlike surgery, you can continue your life normally, with no recovery time and fewer risks.
Of course, no one wants to invest in any product without knowing just how it works and how safe it is. People worried by alarmist accounts about cosmetic injections can breathe a sigh of relief. Xeomin is safe, well-understood, and has long been in use. The only ingredient is botulinum toxin, a naturally occurring substance produced by bacteria found in nature. It has a history of use in clinical settings, so its safety for cosmetic use is already affirmed. Botulinum toxin works by preventing muscle cells where it was injected from releasing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Without this chemical, the muscle cells exposed to botulinum toxin cannot contract, and will remain relaxed. Because the muscles are relaxed, your wrinkles will be paralyzed and therefore visibly reduced, making you look younger and more vibrant.
Xeomin is in the same chemical class as Botox. Both treatments last approximately the same amount of time, and both use botulinum toxin type A, but there are some marked advantages to using Xeomin over Botox. Notably, unlike Botox, Xeomin is classified as “naked,” meaning it contains only botulinum toxin. This may mean that it has less potential to cause immune reactions, making it safer for use.
The results are immediate, positive, and dramatic, not only on your looks, but on your confidence. Join the many people who have found that Xeomin is a great tool for achieving your ideal look.  It’s as easy as walking into Dr Bishara’s office for a short appointment, and walking out feeling more confident, looking more like you.  When you wake up in the morning loving how you look, everything else comes a little bit easier, and Xeomin can help you get there.
