The most recent phase two studies on a topically delivered botulinum toxin type A lend clinical support to an investigational product that doctors might use one day to essentially wipe away crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes. Dr. Michael Kane, MD, a cosmetic surgeon in private practice in New York City, emphasized the standards that were observed in two randomized trails that tested a gel known as RT001, which employs a novel macromolecule delivery system to relax muscles in the sensitive periorbital area.
Throughout phase two they had 11 clinical trials, and over 550 patients have been treated with the drug. They’ve had no treatment related serious adverse events, and had a 115 dat duration of effect. RT001was well tolerated in a double-blind placebo-controlled study of 90 patients and in a study of 180 patients that compared the compound’s individual components.
This product in now scheduled for its end-of-phase two review. In the gel there is a peptide carrier that penetrates skin to relax the orbicular oculi muscles.
Although, the gel is topically applied, RT001 wont be sold over the counter and requires the assistance of a doctors approval. If approved, it will be marketed as a painless alternative for people who would otherwise be treated with injectable botulinum toxin A also known as Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin.

The facelift of the future may be a two-step process, according to studies from the University of Rochester Medical Center. In a new study that was recently published at the American Association of Plastic Surgeons in San Antonio, noted that as people age there are significant changes in bone structure, especially the jaw bone, and those result in a loss of definition in the lower of the face, which contributes to sagging skin and an older look.
Researchers evaluated 120 facial CT scans that had not been taken for cosmetic surgery purposes. The scans were classified according to gender and age: 20 males and 20 females in each of three age groups: ages 20 to 36, 41 to 64, and 65 and older. A computer program was used to measure the length, width, and angle of the jaw bone in each scan.

The study shows that the angle of the jaw increases noticeably as people age, and this causes less definition in the lower portion of the face their measurement show that there is a significant decline in the jaw’s volume as a person ages, and therefor less support of soft tissue of the lower face and neck.
Unless the loss of bone volume is corrected, it will contribute to sagging skin, a loss of definition in the jaw area, and an aging neck. Researches believe that knowing facial bone structure changes as people age will help cosmetic surgeons develop procedures that will allow them to restore youthful appearance for their patients.

Scientists have developed a new method for converting soybean oil in a highly effective biosunscreen active ingredient that could replace petroleum-derived ingredients. This new agent does not carry potential health concerns of ingredients in some existing sunscreens such as oxybenzone. Oxybenzone is a suspected hormone disruptor that could contribute to the disruption of aquatic species reproduction. The sales of sunscreens and protective skin care products have been booming and the need for a product with less adverse environmental effects is in demand. Sunscreens today constitute a relatively new family of water contaminants with adverse health effects on wildlife and people.
The sunscreen industry has focused on offering UV-B protection to prevent sunburn. Joseph Laszlo, PhD, The use of ferulic acid along with vegetable oil produces a water-resistant material capable of absorbing both UV-A and UVB light. It can also be used as an antiaging and antiwrinkle product. Laszlo says that skin ages from sun as well as air pollutants and other environmental effects.
He also believes that ferulic acid could prevent some of the damage cause by free-radical processes involved in environmental exposures. Laszlo made a presentation and his findings supported his hypothesis that ferulic acid can reduce impacts of skin sun exposure and demonstrates how agricultural materials can be used to craft safe and useful consumer products.

The desire of youth and beauty in this day and age is no new phenomenon. Plastic surgery is used every day to create something unnatural and wanting it to look natural.  Form over function is the question. Tom Ford states that over the years we have lost touch with what a real breast actually looks like due to so many females participating in breast augmentation.
He also mentions that the amount of adult women having breast implants makes younger girls feel the need to get them as well to address insecurities, but what do they gain from it? He points out that we are becoming our own art.  We are searching for perfection and becoming too inhuman in the process. He also touches on men and plastic surgery and points out how it is not as easy for men to undergo plastic surgery and look natural.  So does this mean woman are more willing to transition to a postman form or is it just easier for them? Will men follow the same path as women eventually?
