Are you thinking about laser resurfacing treatment for acne, wrinkles, unwanted hair or tattoo removal, or even male pattern baldness? Over the years, we’ve found many benefits with laser treatments, and these are just a few of them. Let’s take a closer look at how laser resurfacing can help you.

Laser Treatment Explained
Laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) produces an intense beam of bright light travelling in one specific, concentrated direction. This beam gently vaporizes and/or ablates skin tissue in order to remove scars, wrinkles or blemishes, seal blood vessels or even cut skin tissue.
Laser treatments and systems are becoming more and more precise and selective, so new and better treatments are becoming available all the time.
Skin Resurfacing
The latest breakthrough in skin rejuvenation, many people are opting for laser resurfacing as an alternative to cosmetic surgery, removing flaws such as wrinkles or acne scars.
How does it work?

A wand-like handheld laser is used to target undesired skin cells wrinkles, which then disappear almost like magic to be replaced by fresh skin cells. This procedure is mainly carried out by Dr Bisharas, it’s relatively simple and especially safe for dealing with delicate areas, with no scalpel required!
What can a Laser Treatment do for You?
Here are some of the ways lasers are being used to treat people every day:

  • Erase fine lines and facial wrinkles.
  • Smooth and tighten eyelid skin
  • Improve/take away the appearance of crow’s feet around your eyes
  • Remove tattoos
  • Improve and flatten scars
  • Help improve male pattern baldness/hair regrowth
  • Soften pucker marks and frown lines
  • Remove brown spots and eradicate uneven skin color
  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Repair smoker’s lines

What to Expect During and After Treatment
Laser resurfacing is a simple and minimally painful procedure, which means during the procedure itself, discomfort is usually very minor, and any pain medication will be discussed with your dermatologic surgeon prior to any treatment carried out.
Aftercare involved in skin resurfacing is also fairly simple. Treated areas should usually be kept moist, and ointment or surgical bandages should be applied for the first few days following the procedure. Skin will appear red or pink and may show a fine crust; this is completely normal. Treated areas should be protected from sunlight following the resurfacing, and make-up can be applied after around one to two weeks following treatment.
Any Side Effects or Complications?
These are minimal, with significant complications extremely rare. The risk of scarring is low, although in some cases, patients may be at risk of some pigmentation loss, depending on which type of laser is used. Common side effects can include mild swelling, crusting, redness or brown discoloration on treated areas – the risk of these are usually minimized by standard surgical techniques and regimens.
Limitations
As with everything, laser treatment has its limitations. It is not a substitute for a facelift, for example, nor can it eliminate excess skin – but it can tighten loose skin, improve certain folds, creases or wrinkles.

Laser resurfacing can prove a very effective alternative to other resurfacing methods, such as microdermabrasion, along with working wonders with other treatments such as chemical peels, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and liposuction of the face and neck.
So far, laser treatments are proving successful in treatment baldness in men, with studies showing promising results for reduced hair loss and/or hair regrowth. But it’s not a straightforward cure for male pattern baldness, with results varying.
