Living in a time where there are an abundance of treatments and so-called miracle cures claiming to turn back the hands of time, it’s hard to discern which products and procedures actually work from those that might fall flat.  Photo facials can offer you a legitimate non-surgical treatment with promising results you can see almost immediately.
A photo facial, also called foto facials or photo rejuvenation, describe a type of treatment using a laser or light-based technology to help restore skin.   There are two main types of photo facials.  The first is a LED photo facial, which is a gentler version often seen in day spas and preformed by our esthetician.   The IPL, or laser photo facial, is an intense pulsed light that is performed in a series of treatments at either a medical spa or done by a medical professional, such as a cosmetic surgeon.
A photo facial is used for several skin issues.  The LED photo facial is mainly used to treat acne, and boost collagen.  The more intense IPL treatments are extremely effective in treating a variety of conditions including sun damaged skin, rosacea, age spots, facial veins or broken capillaries, brown spots, large pores, under-eye bags, facial redness, and wrinkles.   Although a photo facial is most often done on the face, it is also able to treat the skin of the neck, chest, and hands.
IPL (intense pulsed light) photo facial treatments work by deeply penetrating the skin, causing it to produce new collagen and connective tissue.  LED (light emitting diode) is a much gentler treatment using a narrow spectrum light to boost collagen and kill acne causing bacteria.  LED photo facials are found to be painless, and even relaxing.  IPL photo facials on the other hand have stronger results, and the non-surgical procedure can be slightly painful, frequently likened to a rubber band snapping the skin.  A topical numbing agent can be applied prior to the procedure to assist with the discomfort.
The results of photo facials can be seen immediately, mostly as smoother and healthier looking skin.  Side effects of the treatments are mild.  These include temporary redness, swelling, and in some cases blistering or bruising.  Typically the pain post-procedure is mild as well, and can be controlled with regular pain medication.  There is no recovery time needed from normal day-to-day activities.
The number of IPL photo facial treatments needed vary, dependent on each individual and their skin.  Most cases require five to eight treatments, fifteen to thirty minutes long to achieve optimal results.  Each treatment is scheduled approximately three weeks apart.  If a patient receives the recommended number of photo facial treatments prescribed by their doctor, the results are long lasting, especially if a skin care regimen is followed at home to help maintain the results.  Touch-up treatments might be needed after a couple of years.  The cost of IPL photo facials vary, and to get an accurate idea of what you’ll pay it’s best to consult the practice performing the treatments.  Dr Bishara offers consultation services through out the week in Mansfield, Texas.  Bishara Cosmetic Surgery and The Paragon Medspa offer a full line of skin treatments.  Call for an appointment today 817-473-2120
