Hair transplantation has been around for quite some time now. From FUT’s, manual FUE to what now has become the best technique ROBOTIC FUE. Yes! it is an actual robot!. Dr. Mark Bishara has performed the most Robotic FUEs in the world. It is definitely a huge upgrade in the world of hair restoration.

Artas Robot

The ARTAS Robot was cleared by the FDA in 2011. The ARTAS Robot allows Dr. Mark Bishara to maneuver the robot to dissect the best follicular units. The robot is equipped with multiple cameras to help capture the best video and images of the patients hair.  The robot does the dissecting part of the procedure.   The follicular units are checked for quality as the robot dissects and the units get extracted. The robot is built to make recipient sites as well, once the sites are made and the follicular units are checked the planting begins. The new hair is then planted on to the patients recipient area. Local anesthetic is used to help with any pain and discomfort along with Valium to help the patient relax. The ARTAS Robot cuts down on time from a FUT procedure. Instructions on how to care for the new hair is provided before and after the procedure.
Dr. Mark A Bishara is the only known physician to own 3 ARTAS Robots that exclusively uses them in north Texas and has done more FUE procedures with the robot in the world. As if that isn’t enough Dr. Mark Bishara has great bed side manners. He is a great listener and is very attentive to patient needs. He works out of 2 offices located in Mansfield and Southlake to make it more convenient for his patients.

No Stitches, No Linear Scar

As popular as hair transplants are getting, nobody likes stitches or the scars that are left after the hair transplant. When it comes to hair transplant surgery ARTAS is the way to go. Who ever thought, a robot performing hair surgery. With the ARTAS you don’t have to worry about stitches, and better yet NO linear SCAR!!
ARTAS Robotic System

ARTAS Who?

The ARTAS Robotic System was created by Restoration Robotics in 2002 for the treatment of hair loss. Great news, the ARTAS Robotic System is FDA cleared! It only gets better, Dr. Mark A. Bishara at The Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa has performed hundreds of hair restoration surgeries using the ARTAS Robotic System. The ARTAS Robotic System utilizes follicular unit extraction (FUE). Not only dissection, The ARTAS has the ability to make recipient sites. The ARTAS Robotic System has the ability of identifying and selecting your best hair for harvesting. With digital mapping it has the ability to provide a consistent graft dissection. Scarring is very minimal, unnoticeable at that. The recovery period with ARTAS Robotic System is fast making it easier for you to get back to your normal activities quicker.

Behind the scenes of The ARTAS Robotic System

The day of surgery here at The Paragon Plastic Surgery and Med Spa we bring the patient in and start off with consents and paperwork.  The day prior to surgery Dr. Mark A. Bishara will have some medications called and the patient will bring them along the morning of surgery. Dr. Mark A. Bishara’s staff will then begin to prep the patient beginning with trimming the patient hair so that it is easier for the ARTAS Robotic System to identify and extract. The patient’s donor  area is numbed using local anesthesia. The patient will then be seated in prone positon as we prepare the ARTAS Robotic System. A tensioner is placed on the patient scalp to help with dissection and depth. Dr. Mark A. Bishara then begins to maneuver the ARTAS Robotic System. The ARTAS Robotic System will start capturing images of the patient’s donor area in order to identify the different angles and density of the patient’s hair. The dissection begins, as the ARTAS Robotic System is dissection Dr. Mark A. Bishara’s tech will go behind and manually extract the the follicular units as the ARTAS Robotic System disects. Once all follicular units are dissected and extracted, Dr. Mark A. Bishara’s techs will begin to manually transplant the new hair in to the patient’s recipient area. Before you know it, you’ll be walking out with a new hair set!

Surrounding Areas

Dr. Mak A Bishara, M.D. P.A. performs robotic follicular unit graft selection for residents living around Mansfield, Southlake, Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth, and surrounding the DFW area in North Texas.

Importance of Robotic Follicular Unit Graft Selection

Robotic follicular unit graft selection is important during hair restoration surgery because the surgeon can select 2 hair, 3 hair or 4 hair follicular unit grafts and avoid taking single hair grafts when they’re not needed. This supplies more total hair transplanted during the transplant procedure than a typical nonselective process will provide.

How does this work?

The robot sees different hairs that are grouped together with two or more hairs.   Using the optical guidance system with two separate cameras you can distinguish these from single hair grafts.  Dr. Mark A. Bishara, M.D. P.A. programs the robot to only select out thick, more robust follicular units which provides the patient with more hair and a thicker result with minimal soft tissue wounding in the donor area.  This advancement is by far the most significant benefit towards the economy of motion during the procedure.

There are two common ways to treat balding including strip harvesting and follicular unit extraction (FUE).  Strip harvesting is the most commonly used technique right now, and it is an efficient means of harvesting large quantities of follicles.
However, I have stopped offering it as a primary modality for a number of reasons, including patient recovery time and wound morbidity.  It took me six months of training to fully learn FUE.

Benefits of ARTAS System
Robotic technology is used in numerous surgical and diagnostic procedures to improve the efficacy of treatments.  Restoration Robotics has incorporated robotic technology into FUE resulting in the ARTAS system which is the first and only FDA-cleared technology that allows the physician to control the image-guided robot.  I am able to make minor adjustments to dissection depths and angles during the extraction process ensuring my patients receive optimal results.
The ARTAS system also greatly reduces post procedure pain or disomfort as compared to strip-harvesting where patients report a sense of tightness and some degree of numbness for two to three months after a strip harvest.

How the Procedure Works

The patient’s hair is first trimmed before the ARTAS system digitally scans areas of the scalp to identify hair in natural groupings. The selected hair is then precisely harvested using the robot and then transplanted into the thinning areas. These grafts will then grow just like they did before the areas where they are needed to fight balding.
Results will start to show in 3 months and by the 6th month, patients can expect to see noticeable improvements.  The hair will continue to grow and full results will be achieved a year after the treatment.
The ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplantation procedure is preferred because of its minimally invasive nature and no need for anesthesia or downtime. This procedure is designed to produce effective results with minimal downtime and no damage to surrounding hair follicles. I will help you determine how to achieve the best possible results.  Please contact our office for more information at (817) 473-2120.
robotic hair transplants

By age 50, about 50% of American men—and a substantial number of women—are affected by hair loss, much of which is hereditary. Patients with severe hair loss may require surgery to restore hair loss and promote new hair growth. Hair Transplantation is designed to produce effective results with minimal downtime and no damage to surrounding hair follicles. Dr. Bishara is highly experienced in performing all of these procedures, and will help you determine which one is right for you in order to achieve the best possible results.Surgical Treatments

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

FUT is a method of hair restoration surgery in which hair is transplanted only as natural, individual follicular units. This ensures that patients will achieve the most natural results and also allows Dr. Bishara to transplant the maximum amount of hair into a small area. These follicular units consist of up to four individual hairs in each follicle. Hair growth typically begins about three months after the FUT procedure.

Total Crown Renewal® (Frechet Triple Flap)

Total Crown Renewal® is the only procedure that effectively treats the entire top and back of the scalp by redistributing 12,000-15,000 hairs over the balding area. This creates a natural appearance even when treating large areas of baldness on the front, top and crown of the head.
This procedure is performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Patients usually experience little to no discomfort during this procedure, and can return to their regular activities after three days.

Temporal Peaks Restoration

Temporal Peaks Restoration restores a natural and youthful hairline by recreating the temporal peaks, the areas at the front of the head that are common sites of hair loss. Restoration of hair in this area includes transplantation with proper placement to recreate a natural hairline and restore the patient’s original appearance.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive hair restoration procedure that moves the patient’s own hair graft by graft to maximize the likelihood of regrowth after it has been transplanted in the balding area. This procedure involves moving the entire follicle with special micro-instruments in order to prevent damage and maintain the health of the hair for optimum results. FUE offers many benefits over traditional hair transplant procedures, including: minimal scarring and discomfort and a quick return to work.
