Feeling a little dry or oily? Your skins appearance and texture may be due to an underlying skin condition that you may not be aware you have… or the cause of it.
There are four main skin types: oily, dry, normal and combination. Normal skin types, often found in young people are defined by smooth texture, no blemishes, dryness or greasy patches. Oily skin type, is due to overactive sebaceous glands and enlarged pores. Dry skin type is characterized by the lack of moisture and often associated with tightness and flaking of the skin. Lastly, combination skin types are characterized by having both dry and oily parts of the skin typically the known as the “t-zone”.
Skin types are often determined by many different influences but mainly internal influences such as hormonal changes, medications and genetic disposition. But can also be influenced by external changes as well. Such as, climate , skin care routine and sun exposure. All of these skin types are capable of developing a skin condition if not diagnose and treated properly.
Skin conditions are a underlying problem often causing other issues. Have your aesthetician do a skin analysis to determine if your skin is suffering from one or more of the following conditions: dehydration, sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles or acne. All of these conditions are treatable with the right skin care products and professional treatments.

Ever wonder after getting a facial or chemical peel what makes your face feel so firm and fresh? There is a very important and common ingredient found in some skin care products. We all know that taking our daily multivitamins and eating healthy are important to our everyday lifestyle as well as keeping our skin looking beautiful, but did you know that we can also find our vitamins in our skin care products as well.  At Dr. Bishara’s office and The Paragon Med Spa we know the benefits of Retinoids for skin care.
Our epidermis is the outer most part of our body and is exposed to so many free radicals each day and it is also the organ to receive the least amount of vitamins from the foods we
eat and the supplements we take. This is why in order to protect the biggest organ on our body (our skin) we need to use good topical products to insure it receives all the vitamins it needs to stay healthy as well.
Retinoids are a form of vitamin A and essential to collagen production, wrinkle and inflammation reduction. Retinoids can be found in many different forms and can also have different side affects on the skin. Retinal is the alcohol form of Vitamin A which can convert to retinoic acid. Retinoic Acid is more commonly found in chemical peels and is used for more acne prone, problematic skin. Now although these are okay to use on the skin they can at times cause a little peeling depending on the strength and form thats in the product being used.
The next time you see our aesthetician at Dr. Bishara’s office & The Paragon Med Spa- please ask how Retinoids would be beneficial in your daily skin care regimen.  For more information about us, feel free to explore our website, or call the office today at 817.473.2120.

Got teen acne?

You’re definitely not alone. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 100% of all teens have at least the occasional breakout. Acne strikes all teenagers equally, regardless of sex, race or ethnicity. Most teenage acne comes from hormonal changes during the teenage years.  Dr. Bishara and The Paragon Med Spa can help you and your children or teen learn more about how to properly take care of your skin.

Teen Acne Triggers:

Hormones released at the onset of puberty are responsible for the appearance of acne during the teen years. These hormones stimulate the skin’s sebaceous, or oil glands, creating an oily skin that is more prone to pore blockages and breakouts. There have been studies indicating that sress and diet can be additional acne triggers.

The Emotional Cost:

While acne is a physical problem, it also affects teens psychologically. Even if the acne is relatively mild, it may have a big impact on self-esteem and self-confidence. Parents need to understand that even mild acne may have a profound impact on the way their teen feels about themselves. Helping with treatment and support can go a long way in protecting and repairing a teen’s self-esteem.
It is important to start implementing a good skin care regimen around the age of 8, because this sets forth good habits that the child will carry out through their life. Starting with a basic 3 step regimen of cleanse, tone, and moisturize.  Making this a daily routine will also help their face become accustomed to controlling oil production.

What Can Be Done:

As the child enters into their teen years it’s good to take preventative measures to fighting acne as well, such as coming in on a once weekly or monthly visit for a facial and other aesthetic treatments to help prevent the seriousness of the acne and keep their skin scar
