James Harris, MD, director and founder of Hair Sciences Center of Colorado, in Denver, helped develop a new medical device called the ARTAS System. This physician controlled system combines an image-guided robotic arm and imaging features with a system that indentifies and extracts follicular units.
This system was created to solve problems with current extraction methods such as the long linear scar, the painful healing period and some numbness or tightness of the scalp that is associated with the strip. It makes the extraction process much quicker and the healing process much better for the patient. Using the ARTAS system allows the physician to focus on planting as opposed to spending the majority of the time on the guesswork and labor of extracting each individual follicle blindly. According to Harris the ARTAS is “evolutionary”.
