PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Does PRP sound familiar? PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma has been around for quite some time. It is commonly used for joint rejuvenation, male enhancement and aesthetic procedures like face lifts.
What about hair loss? Hair loss can be caused by many factors in both men and women. Whether it is genetic or for medical reasons, no one likes the fact that they are losing hair. Now a days there are many options to help with hair loss. Some such as minoxidil or roGaine, laser therapy and even hair transplantation.

PRP is created from the patients own blood, it is placed in a centrifuge so that the plasma is separated. One of the good things about this treatment is there is no down time, you can resume regular activities the moment you leave our office. Some swelling may occur but it is not very common. Trends by Recipient Area

  •   From 2010 to 2012, hair restoration procedures performed on the eyebrow and face (moustache/beard) increased 13.1%
  •   Asia conducted the largest amount of eyelash (601), eyebrow (5,160) and facial hair restorations (1,904)
  •   The Middle East experienced the biggest gains in eyebrow hair restoration procedures (113.1%) from 2010 to 2012, followed by Europe (78.4%)
  •   The largest increase in facial hair restoration procedures from 2010 to 2012 occurred in the Middle East (263.2%) and Asia (77.9%)

Hair Restoration Shows Tremendous Increase

A recent survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) showed that men and women around the world are seeking to correct hair loss while they’re younger rather than putting it off until later in life.

Since the ISHRS starting tracking data on hair restoration in 2004, the extrapolated worldwide volume of surgical hair restoration procedures performed from 2004 to 2012 increased 85 percent.  What explains this tremendous increase in people seeking help for hair loss, even during tough economic times?  We believe the unprecedented growth and increased popularity in hair restoration over the past decade can be directly attributed to the continual refinements and advances in this type of surgery – together with proven medical therapies – that produce natural-looking, permanent results.
Other key findings of the survey include:

  • The number of women undergoing hair restoration surgery worldwide increased 20 percent from 2004 to 2012
  • Patients aged 30 to 49 sought treatment for hair loss more than any other age group
  • In 2012, ISHRS members chose John Mayer and Sofia Vergara as the celebrities with the best hair
